Went with my mum and we did enjoy our meal here. Service was excellent and the staff (including the servers) were very friendly. We had quite a lot and my personal top 3 favourites were the crispy roast pork, shark fins and mini egg tarts.
The crispy roast pork was my num 1. It had a perfect crispy exterior and succulent meat inside. The shark fins in stone pot were super tasty with a rich, savory taste. The mini egg tarts were delightful, with a perfect balance of flaky crust and flavorful filling. Had a memorable dining experience, leaving me satisfied and impressed with the food quality.
Our very regular dining place. All staff here were friendly and accommodative. They serve live seafood here and food were always tasty. The managers, Kenny, Dennis and Raymond were all very friendly. Remember to book your seat before you go.
Had dinner. Ordered 3 of the chef recommended dishes. Food average. Only the tofu is good - soft and has a tinge of egg taste. Quite special. Stew chicken with bitter gourd - despite seen a recommended dish has nothing special. The taro too is pretty tasteless and hard. The sweet and sour pork and fried rice pretty average.
Came here for breakfast. My favourites are fried glutinous rice, char leong (fried fritters dough wrapped in steam rice noodle roll) and their roast pork and duck.
It's better to make reservation and all your party need to be present before they let you in because once you ordered, they serve fast and you are expected to leave once you finished and do not linger. There is always a queue even though u made reservation, you still have to wait.
Made a reservation and the staff on the line got the date wrong, but thankfully, a staff called to confirm the reservation closer to the date and that was fixed.
The food was definitely great overall! I personally really enjoyed the following:
✅ Teochew Style Crispy Noodle with Sugar & Vinegar
✅ Seafood with Vermicelli in Claypot
✅ Crispy Roasted Pork Belly
✅ Braised Tien Tsin Cabbage with Minced Ham
✅ Peking Duck
Steamed Bamboo Clam with Garlic & Chili was $18++ each and it was nice, but think it’s way too pricey. My family members also enjoyed their Chilled Pig Trotter Jelly!
Food was served promptly, piping hot and delicious! The service staff who attended to us were mostly attentive with speedy responses.
However, it was slightly frustrating as I had pre-ordered their mooncake and had made multiple requests for this to be brought to our table since we were dining in, but in the end I had to queue to collect my mooncake after the meal while my family waited for me.
Overall still a great experience and would definitely recommend!
Dim sum was generally good, deserving of 5 stars. BUT if I were to compare it to Empire Fine Chinese Cuisine (same level, just next door) some dishes of Empire’s dim sum are better flavoured and ingredients seems of better quality (like the roasted pork belly, duck and char siew. Empire wins hands down!!) Their char siew soh was good! Crispy yet soft, pastry and meat ratio was good! Do not order the fried white bait. It was bland and the batter tasted weird. Service was very efficient and staff were very attentive when you need something - even tho it was full house!
What’s on the Menu?
On the menu, you can find Teochew-Cantonese style dim sum such as har gow (蝦餃叉燒包), siew mai (燒賣), Char Siew Boa (叉燒包) and so on. They also serve other dishes such as Poached Live Prawn (白灼生海虾), Roasted Pork Belly(脆皮燒肉), Teochew Cold Crab (潮州冻黄膏蟹), etc.
What’s my favorite dishes?
Roast Pork Belly (脆皮燒肉) - about 9 bite-sized pieces but it was real solid, crisp, golden crackling that makes you swoon. 😋😋😋😋
How’s the service provided?
Table service was provided and staff were somehow attentive, friendly and helpful. Overall, I would rate level of service as good 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Is there any seat available when you were there
Yes. Note that you need to make a reservation in advance to avoid long queue (lesson learnt).
Is there a queue when you were there?
Yes, waited for 30 minutes before seated.
How’s the décor?
The restaurant looks modestly sized from the entrance. But, inside the restaurant is large rectangular shaped dining with traditional decor and layout where the bright red plush carpet and gold rim seats (feels like a travel back in time to 90s😜) 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Is it convenient to travel to the place?
Yes, the restaurant is located at Level 5, Takashimaya mall and it is about 3 minutes walking distance from Orchard MRT Station to the restaurant.
Will I travel to here just for the food?
No, I am not a fan of dim sum.
Will I visit the place when I am around?
Maybe, when I am craving for dim sum or friends “jio” me for dim sum.
Final Verdict:
Well, the dim sum is not particularly outstanding and the prices are on the high-side. May only visit once in a blue moon.
Best to make a phone reservation if you’re going on a weekend as it’s pretty crowded. We were shown to our tables immediately, and food was served really fast. The yam spring roll and char siew polo buns were the star of the show, but everything else was freshly fried and good too! The dim sum size is quite decent and packed with liao too so super worth it. We spent around $27 per pax in the end, not that much more expensive compared to the usual dimsum suspects.
(P.S. They serve in 3s and 4s in case you’re wondering how many packs to come with :)
